Tomorrow, 16 May 2007, marks the tenth anniversary of the launch of ANACOM's website. Over these last ten years, the website has been built up as a source of reference and information on the Portuguese communications sector and the principle developments of sectoral relevance at an international level. Over a decade of technological innovation, ANACOM's website has responded to the demands of its public, through the provision of quality content and services, especially its online services and the Tariff Monitor.
Responding to the initial objective of providing information on the regulator, ANACOM's website began with a simple structure, consisting of a single menu of transversal sector information. This presentation later evolved into a more solid model, with the information architecture encompassing specialist areas concentrating information on specific themes of sectoral activity. Since 2001 the number of themed areas has grown considerably, coupled with intense research with the objective of ensuring that the posted information remains up-to-date.
The current layout of www.anacom.pt, launched on 5 February 2002, was designed to reflect, at the date of its inception, the structure and national and international activity of the communications regulator. The homepage has an area of highlights containing information with greatest sector impact, especially public consultations launched by ANACOM, electronic services, such as the Tariff Monitor of the Mobile Telephone Service, and a wide range of initiatives, such as ANACOM's seminar programme.
In order to bring the regulator closer to the sector’s various stakeholders, the site's Online Services were made available in 2002, the first space of electronic and dynamic services serving the public in general. This service includes forms associated with ANACOM's various services and information for consumers, allowing at the same time for payments to be made more simply. The security system, based on advanced encryption solutions, is one of ANACOM's concerns. It provides users of the available services with total security as they transfer information.
Accessibility is another requisite that has particular importance for ANACOM's presence on the internet. Through the text version, the site is designed to be viewed on any type of screen and seeks to maintain a position of leadership with respect to user accessibility, irrespective of any special needs users might have or of the equipment being used. ANACOM's website is clearly among the most advanced websites of national public and private entities and also of the sectoral regulator bodies of European countries with which ANACOM has a direct relationship.
ANACOM remains fully committed to making a contribution to the policy and social objectives of the execution of the eEurope action plan: A Society for All, based on knowledge, affirming it as a national and European reference for good practise in publishing information on the Internet.
