Cape Verde - developments in communications


In order to increase competitiveness in the communications sector and to improve the quality of the provided services, two international public tenders were recently launched by the Institute of Communications and Information Technologies (ICTI), of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transports of Cape Verde.  Within this context, two more licenses for land mobile service (LMS) will be granted, for a period of ten years, as well as licenses for television service by subscription, for a period of fifteen years. The deadline for the submission of bids in both tenders ends on the 22nd of December 2004.

On the other hand, the members of ICTI Board of Directors were already appointed: Mrs. Margarida Évora (Chairwoman), Mr. David Gomes (Executive Director) and Mr. Carlos Silva (Non-executive Director).

ICTI was established by decision of the Government of Cape Verde, on 13 November 2003. Operation started at the beginning of 2004 and its mission is the regulation and the development of the communications sector of Cape Verde. ICTI is in charge of the radio spectrum management, supervision, technical regulation, communications regulation and inspection as well as the promotion and the development of the information and communication technologies.
