Within the scope of the protocol signed between ANACOM and DECO - Associação Portuguesa para a Defesa do Consumidor (Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection), this entity released the results of the latest comparative tests conducted on set-top-boxes for digital terrestrial television (DTT).
The tests covered 32 units of equipment (three more than those previously tested) and showed once again that, in the majority of cases, the image is not disappointing, even when the boxes are connected to conventional television sets.
The "right choice" of DECO continues to be attributed to the decoder of the Denver brand, model DMB-105HD, with a cost varying between 49 and 59.90 euros. However, this equipment is already in its final commercialisation phase. The decoder of the Televes brand, model TDT 7151, was once again distinguished as the "best of the test", with a price varying between 116 and 199 euros.
DECO does not recommend, however, the acquisition of five of the decoders tested, due to their high energy consumption in stand-by mode: between 10.2 W (CGV Premio HD-W) and 16.7 W (Metronic Zapbox HD-Z1). It is recalled that the limit set by the European Commission is 2 watts for stand-by consumption of equipment on sale from January 2010.
