57th ETSI General Assembly - Cannes

The 57th General Assembly of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) was held last 19-20 April in the French city of Cannes.

This Assembly was marked by the election of the ETSI Director-General (DG). Three candidates disputed the post: Victor Dominguez Richards (Spain); Luís Jorge Romero Saro (Spain); Walter Weigel (current DG - Germany). After three rounds of voting, Luís Jorge Romero Saro was elected to be the next ETSI DG and will begin his term this July.

The Assembly also deliberately created an ad hoc group to revise the ETSI governance structure and organisational procedures. This group is meant to identify areas that can be improved. The Assembly’s chairman was charged with developing this group’s mandate and proposing a co-ordinator for same.

The reference accounts for 2010 were also approved. Note that ETSI accordingly presented a negative result of €47,091 in the last financial year.

Note also that the 2012 budget guidelines were approved and leave two scenarios open: Scenario 1 - maintaining the CU value; Scenario 2 - raising the CU value by 1.8 percent. The next General Assembly, scheduled for 29-30 November in Cannes, will make a definitive decision on this matter.
