ITU marks 'Girls in ICT' day - 26.04.2012

Today, 26 April, is Girls in ICT Day, which is marked on the fourth Wednesday of every April.  The day was established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with the goal of promoting gender equality in information and communication technologies (ICT) through policies and programmes which support young women in their social-economic development, creating opportunities and encouraging the choice of a career and professional training in ICT.

The day is celebrated across the world with over 300 initiatives taking place in schools, universities, government institutions, institutes and companies, in order to show young women and girls the practical side of professional ICT activities.

FPC - Fundação Portuguesa para as Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation) is taking part in this initiative and is holding a round table today from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm which will be moderated by the journalist Reginaldo de Almeida and will hear the experiences of professional women working in ICT.
