40th ECC PT1 meeting - Wroclaw

The 40th meeting of working group ECC PT1 (International Mobile Telecommunications – IMT) was held last 11-13 April in the Polish city of Wroclaw, chaired by Didier Chaveau. Working group ECC PT1 is responsible for all issues concerning IMT. Among others, its mission is to develop harmonisation measures in bands assigned to IMT and respective channels, to conduct sharing/compatibility studies involving IMT and to co-ordinate European positions in the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R).

A highlight of the meeting was the revision of CEPT Decision (06)01 concerning the UMTS core band (2 GHz), only encompassing the frequency division multiplexing (FDD) bands, 1920-1980 MHz/2110-2170 MHz, and which are not included in the time division multiplexing (TDD) bands at present.

The preliminary response to the second European Commission mandate on mobile communications in aircraft (MCA) was also produced. Its aim is evaluate compatibility questions deriving from the inclusion of other bands/technologies beyond those currently considered in Decision 2008/294/EC.

Lastly, note the finalisation of Recommendation ECC/REC/(08)02 concerning the 900/1800 MHz band, where co-ordination (beyond UMTS/GSM) of LTE and WiMAX systems in border areas is envisaged.
