EC consultation on procedures for blocking illegal content

The European Commission (EC) has launched a public consultation (closes on 3 September 2012) on procedures for removing and blocking access to illegal content.

Through the consultation, the EC is seeking to improve procedures for reporting and acting on illegal content hosted by online intermediaries.

The EC's goal is to contribute to developing legal certainty, trust and therefore growth in (cross-border) online services, thus enhancing the functioning of the Digital Single Market.

The procedures will also contribute to combating illegality on the internet, and ensure transparency, effectiveness, proportionality and fundamental rights compliance of notice-and-action procedures.
