Majority of investigations into DTT find problems in reception installations

In the majority of situations where measurements of the digital terrestrial television (DTT) signal have been taken on the ground following reports of reception difficulties, ANACOM found that problems were due mainly to defects related to installation. Similar situations were found in over half the investigations conducted during 2012.

In the latest investigation conducted in the municipality of Sardoal, this was also the conclusion reached after conducting intensive measurements between 22 and 26 October, from 4pm to midnight (the time at which the claimed problems with signal reception tended to arise).

The measurements were made in sites with terrestrial DTT coverage, according to information provided by PT Comunicações (PTC). In addition measurements were performed in Mogão Cimeiro and in the parish of Alcaravela, even though these are classified by PTC as areas with satellite coverage (DTH).

In all cases, the addresses analyzed were as indicated by the presidents of parish councils as having problems with signal reception.

On completion of the investigation, the coverage problems reported by Sardoal Municipal Council could not be ascertained, given that the signal's quality and stability levels were high; however, defects were found in terms of the installations. Out of the 14 reception installations examined, 12 were found to have technical problems, which require correction by the users.
