ANACOM presides over Euro-Mediterranean network of Regulators

During 2013, ANACOM will preside over the Euro-Mediterranean network of Regulators (EMERG), as decided at the last plenary of 2012, with support from the other members of the permanent secretariat, regulators from Egypt (NTRA), Spain (CMT), Lebanon (TRA), Italy (AGCOM) and Jordan (TRC). The Vice-presidency falls to the Jordanian regulator (TRC), which will take over the presidency in 2014, and the Egyptian regulator (NTRA), which held the presidency in 2012.

The next EMERG plenary will be held in Lisbon on 20 and 21 February. The agenda will focus on the continuation of European Commission funding in the context of the new 2014-2020 multiannual financial framework, the 2013 work plan, the appraisal of documents on an approach to licensing and market access and discussions on retail price regulation, as well as on matters related to the internal organization of EMERG.

EMERG brings together representatives from electronic communications sector regulators across the Mediterranean region, including members of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), and members from North Africa and the Middle East.
