European Commission publishes conclusions of the consultation on 'Internet of Things'


The European Commission (EC) published, on 28 February 2013, its conclusions on the public consultation on rules for smart electronic devices, the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT).

Through the public consultation, held between April and July 2012, EC sought opinions on an a policy approach to foster a dynamic development of IoT in the digital single market while ensuring appropriate protection of European Union (EU) citizens.

IoT is a long-term and market stimulating technology, based on the use of everyday objects such as phones, cars, household appliances, etc., that are wirelessly connected to the Internet through smart electronic devices, and can collect and share data. The conclusions of this consultation will help to define the future IoT policy.

Together with the results of the public consultation, EC publishes also the report on the work of the IoT group of experts.
