ITU Council meeting - 2013 session - Geneva


Geneva hosted last 11-21 June a meeting of the ITU Council, the body in charge of managing the organisation between plenipotentiary conferences (PPs).

This Council session was chaired by Catalin Marinescu of Romania. The following stand out:

  • Adoption of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) budget for the 2014-2016 period;
     
  • Approval of the 2014-2017 operational plans of the general secretariat and the three ITU sectors;
     
  • Approval of Decision 574, which experimentally grants free online access to final reports from ITU world development conferences;
     
  • Approval of Decision 575, which creates a committee to prepare commemorations of the ITU's 150th anniversary;
     
  • Approval of Resolution 1361, which adopts the financial statements corresponding to financial year 2012;
     
  • Approval of Resolution 1358, which creates an ITU Council working group to draft the Union’s strategy plan and financial plan proposals for 2016-2019;
     
  • Discussions on continuation of the process associated to the World Summit on the Information Society after 2015.

The ITU Council will next meet from 30 April to 9 May 2014, before the Union’s next Plenipotentiary Conference (South Korea, 20 October to 7 November 2014).
