CERP WG UPU meeting - Lisbon

The CERP working group (WG) responsible for European coordination of Universal Postal Union (UPU) issues met last 10 October in Lisbon, chaired by Norway. The Association of European Public Postal Operators (PostEurop) and the UPU International Bureau (IB) took part as observers.

With a view to preparing for the November 2013 annual session of the UPU’s Council of Administration (CA), the group closely examined regulatory topics deemed to be more significant or priority, specifically reform, finances and revision of UPU acts, the ‘.post’ project, terminal charges and regulatory questions raised by the possibility of member countries’ being able to designate various operators.

Also discussed was the possibility of creating European common proposals (ECPs) following a model similar to that of the ITU Policy Committee (Com-ITU), the counterpart committee in CEPT, for coordination regarding International Telecommunication Union (ITU) meetings.

WG UPU was informed of the need to appoint a new vice-chair for the group at least until the end of the current term (May 2014).

The next WG UPU meeting has been scheduled for March 2014; the specific date and place have yet to be determined, pending eventual coordination during the UPU Council of Administration (CA) meeting.
