Ecuador's Roberto Cavanna Merchán has been sworn in as the new Secretary General of the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal (PUASP), taking office on 10 January 2013 in a ceremony that was attended by ministry representatives and senior government officials from Uruguay, the organisation's host country.
Roberto Cavanna was elected Secretary General for the 2014-2017 period at the 22nd Congress of Havana in September 2013, taking over from Serrana Bassini, who had been elected to this position at the Rio de Janeiro Conference in 2005 and then re-elected in Santiago de Chile in 2009.
