Meeting of PT FNI of WG NaN - Copenhagen

The 20th meeting of the project team (PT) on Future Numbering Issues (FNI) of the ECC working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) was held last 5-6 March in Copenhagen, where the participating regulators discussed the latest information about numbering, particularly the use of mobile network codes (MNCs).

The meeting saw revision of the Draft ECC Report 212 on "Evolution of the Use of E.212 MNCs", which put forward several solutions meant to avoid changing the subscriber identity module (SIM), specifically in the market for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications borne on mobile networks, if the support operator has to be changed. In this regard and to canvass respondents to the consultation conducted for that proposed report as well as other interested parties, a public workshop was held on 4 March, attended by operators, consultancy firms and regulators from various countries. The information, including documents, can be consulted at: Public workshop on Draft ECC Report 212 "Evolution in the use of E.212 Mobile Network Codes"http://www.cept.org/ecc/groups/ecc/wg-nan/pt-fni/page/public-workshop-on-draft-ecc-report-212-evolution-in-the-use-of-e212-mobile-network-codes.

The recommendation ECTRA/REC(00)01 on "Charging Principles for National and International Freephone Numbers" was revised in line with the received contributions; a proposed decision was also developed, on "Extraterritorial Use of E.164 Numbers", per the general principles contained in ECC Report 194 on "Extraterritorial use of E.164 Numbers", which will be submitted for consideration at the next WG NaN meeting.
