63rd ETSI General Assembly - Mandelieu

The 63rd General Assembly (GA) of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) was held last 18-19 March in the French town of Mandelieu.

The General Assembly approved 26 new memberships: 18 full members, 5 associate members and 3 observers. Compared to the March 2013 GA, the overall number of members and contribution units (CUs) increased, respectively from 775 and 3783 at the end of 2013 to 777 and 3835.

The GA approved the positive financial result of nearly 32,000 euros for year 2013 and the respective report for year 2014, as well as guidelines for the 2015 budget which keep the values of the various CUs while envisaging a deficit of about 1.347 million euros due to costs associated to the dispute with TruePosition. In this context, the director general (DG) urged members to make voluntary contributions and suggested an extraordinary increase in the CUs.

Regarding the elections scheduled for November 2014, the GA confirmed the practice of electing one chair and two vice-chairs for the GA and took note of the electoral process. As for election of the new board, the GA decided to maintain the current characteristics, specifically its composition (minimum of 28 members and maximum of 30, with two reserved posts: one for the users’ representative and the other for the representative of small and medium sized companies (SMEs)).

The GA noted the current status of work carried out in the ad hoc group for Revision of the Governance and Structure (GAGS) of ETSI and approved in the Specially Convened Meeting the changes to ETSI directives deriving from Recommendation 15.

Finally, in the area of cooperation, the renewal of several memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements was approved.

The next GA has been scheduled for 18-19 November 2014 in Sophia-Antipolis, France.
