Future of DTT - report approved

By determination of 1 August 2014, ANACOM has approved the report on the public consultation on the future of digital terrestrial television (DTT), as regards matters covered by its remit.

The same report was approved by the Regulatory Council of Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (Media Regulatory Authority) on 6 August 2014, as regards matters covered by its remit.

The consultation procedure, which was launched subsequent to ANACOM’s decision of 4 April 2014 and prepared in conjunction with ERC, provided a means of involving and consulting all stakeholders on the evolution of DTT, with a view to the definition of measures to be taken, according to the powers and responsibilities of each authority (ANACOM and ERC), while also considering the evolution of radio spectrum use at an international level.

The procedure aimed to set out different scenarios for the evolution of DTT, specifically in terms of the availability of new free-to-air content and platforms, the transmission of current TV programme services in high definition (HD), the opportunity and suitability of introducing other business models, including pay-TV, as well as potential interest in providing services with different geographical scope.
