Commission Recommendation on regulated markets

The European Commission (EC) has approved a new Recommendation on relevant product and service markets within the electronic communications sector susceptible to ex ante regulation in accordance with Directive 2002/21/EC.

This Recommendation replaces Commission Recommendation 2007/879/EC of 17 December 2007, whose content has been revised in light of market developments seen over recent years. As such, the retail market for fixed telephony access and the wholesale market for call origination on fixed networks are no longer regulated, subject to the safeguards set out in the Recommendation.

As a result, the Recommendation now includes only four markets: wholesale market for fixed termination, wholesale market for mobile termination, wholesale market for central and local broadband access and wholesale market for high-quality local access.
