Meetings of Com-ITU and the Steering Committee - Copenhagen

The Steering Committee for the Excellence Centres for Europe met last 11 February in Copenhagen. The gathering was chaired by Portugal and aimed to set operational guidelines for the excellence centres of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Europe in 2015.

The CEPT Committee for ITU Policy (Com-ITU) met on 12-13 February. This committee, chaired by Marcin Krasuski of Poland, is in charge of European coordination with a view to participation in ITU activities.

The Com-ITU meeting assessed results of the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-14) held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 20 October to 7 November 2014. The group agreed to consider that conference’s conclusions positive and highlighted the constructive spirit that prevailed there. Some improvements to be made were nevertheless discussed, specifically with regard to European coordination.

Com-ITU discussed the roadmap for expected activities in 2015. Com-ITU’s activities will hence be based on three pillars: financial, operational and policy issues.

The next Com-ITU meeting will be held on 22-24 September 2015 in Bucharest.
