CERP WG UPU meeting - Rome

The CERP working group (WG) in charge of European coordination for Universal Postal Union (UPU) issues held a meeting last 19-20 March in Rome, chaired by Norway. It was attended by several countries, among them Portugal, and by the Association of European Public Postal Operators (PostEurop).

The WG examined documents for meetings of the UPU Council of Administration (CA) working groups to be held during the ordinary session of the Postal Operations Council (POC) to take place from 15 April to 1 May 2015 in Berne, Switzerland. Special attention was paid to the most relevant documents for European policymakers and regulators, specifically those associated to the following topics:

  • clearer distinction between regulatory and operational duties of UPU permanent bodies;
  • more participation of stakeholders in the UPU Advisory Committee;
  • revision of the Convention and respective Regulations;
  • study of the permanent nature of the Convention;
  • strengthened regulatory function in the UPU.

It was agreed that the group would meet informally during the UPU CA.

The date and place of the next regular WG UPU meeting have yet to be determined, though it should take place before the next meeting of the UPU CA, whose preparation is the main agenda point.

Finally, the next CERP plenary meeting will be held this coming 28-29 May in Sofia, Bulgaria.
