The Netherlands takes over the presidency of the European Union (EU) from 1 January to 30 June 2016, beginning a new trio presidency with Slovakia and Malta.
The main priorities announced for the next 18 months are growth, jobs, freedom, security, justice, energy union and a stronger EU in the world.
