OECD releases broadband statistics

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released data on broadband with reference to June 2015, indicating an overall penetration rate of 85.4% in the OECD area (including two potential future members - Columbia and Latvia).

The published data also shows that DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) remains the prevalent technology, although it is being gradually replaced by optical fibre, which already accounts for 17.9% of subscriptions.

Portugal is highlighted as reporting a higher rate of growth in terms of fixed broadband penetration between June 2014 and June 2015, with an increase of 12.7%, far exceeding the OECD average (3.5%).
