6th meeting of the working group on Financial and Human Resources - Geneva

Geneva hosted last 24-26 February the sixth meeting of the ITU Council working group on Financial and Human Resources (CWG FHR), chaired by Bruce Gracie of Canada.

CWG FHR continued discussions about the memorandum of understanding between the ITU and the DONA Foundation, with some member states remaining very concerned about eventual strategic and financial impacts of that accord on the ITU. But that concern is not shared by all the member states; it was therefore not possible to reach a conclusion about the issue.

Another significant matter was the analysis of alternative revenue sources. In that regard, the revision of rates associated to international numbering resources was considered, along with revision of the policy for ITU sector member exemptions.

Lastly, the following were also notable: i) revision of council Resolution 1333 (creation and management of Council Working Groups, including the criteria for the selection of chairs and vice-chairs); and ii) the ITU’s policy for access to documents/information.

The ITU members will continue to discuss these issues at the next session of the Union’s Council, to be held from this coming 25 May to 2 June.
