Meetings of the ITU Council working groups - Geneva


Meetings of the following working groups were held from last 15 to 19 February in Geneva: Internet-related Public Policy Issues, Committee on the ITU’s 150th Anniversary Preparations, Child Online Protection and World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). The aim was to prepare for the ITU Council meeting scheduled for May 2016.

The working group on Internet-related Public Policy Issues debated the following topics: internet access by the disabled and people with special needs; questions for an upcoming public consultation to launch in 2016 with a view to building a suitable internet access environment; determination of the topic for public consultation in 2017, privacy and data protection and personal information, including individual authentication.

The committee preparing for the ITU’s 150th Anniversary examined and approved the final draft report on respective commemorative activities to take place worldwide.

The working group on Child Online Protection discussed the digital rights of young people, presented as the so-called ‘5 Rights’, along with potential questions for an online public consultation on the prevention of cyber-bullying in social networks.

The WSIS working group went over results of the WSIS+10 summit meeting and discussed action lines to develop with respect to the mapping of ITU activities and the sustainable development goals in which this organisation is an active participant. Also presented were preliminary results of the public consultation on topics for the WSIS Forum 2016.
