World Standards Day 2017


World Standards Day, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), is marked on 14 October 2017.

The theme chosen for this year’s event is “Standards Make Cities Smarter”.

The Portuguese Quality Institute (IPQ) is associated with this initiative and, on 16 October 2017, is holding an event which hosts a round table on the Smart Cities theme, including delivery of two awards:

  • Standardization Prize - awarded to the Technical Committee that best evidenced compliance with Portuguese Standardization Rules and Procedures;
  • "MÉRITO" Standardisation Prize – awarded annually to recognise experts who, through their performance, knowledge and dedication, have individually stood out and contributed to the development of standardization in Portugal.
