Telephone directories will only be delivered to customers who specifically request them in advance; they will be provided free of charge if they correspond to the customer's area of residence.
Customers who need additional directories or directories from other areas, will also have to request them; these can also be received by post, although postage charges may apply. Alternatively, directories can be collected free-of-charge from one of the two MEO designated outlets, one in Lisbon and one in Porto.
MEO, the company which won the public tender launched by the Government in 2015 to award the universal service provision of a comprehensive telephone directory and a comprehensive directory enquiry service for a period of 3 years, is required to make printed directories available on an annual basis, covering all subscribers of telephone services (fixed and mobile). These are to include customers of other operators, provided that they have authorized the inclusion of their data. MEO must also make the telephone directory available in electronic format - online at www.118net.pthttp://www.118net.pt - and make the data contained in the directory available through a directory enquiries service (118), subject to a charge.
