The project team on Number Portability and Switching (PT NPS) of ECC WG NaN met last 21-22 February in Brussels.
PT NPS has been producing studies, reports and recommendations on aspects associated to simplification of the process for operator switching, including number portability.
The following topics were considered and developed at this meeting:
- Report ECC 275 on “The role of E.164 numbers in international fraud and misuse of electronic communications services” – in the wake of the public consultation, the report was finalised so it could be submitted for approval (and subsequent publication) at the next WG NaN meeting. The meeting was also attended by an international wholesale operator (BICS), which presented its view on this subject;
- Report ECC 274 on “Regulatory analysis of over-the-air provisioning of SIM profiles including its impact on number portability” – the report to submit to WG NaN was finalised in order to begin the public consultation process;
- Assessment of eventual impacts of the proposed Electronic Communications Code with respect to portability (article 99).
The next meeting of this project team is scheduled for May 2018 in Copenhagen.
