Amendments to the Regulamento da Portabilidade (Portability Regulation - Regulation no 257/2018 of 8 Mayhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1435216), enter into force today (13 September 2018), bringing changes to the portability announcement and introducing a freephone information service (free calls from subscriber's network).
The free online announcement (portability announcement) - currently played whenever a call made by a user to a ported number is more expensive than it was before that number was ported - will only be available from this date when expressly requested by the end-user. The Portability Regulation also required service providers to inform their end-users in good time that they need to make an express request, if they wish to continue hearing this announcement.
Nevertheless, the right to activate or deactivate the portability announcement without charge is maintained, and users should continue to follow the procedures indicated by operators, as determined in the Regulation.

Companies offering mobile or telephone services at a fixed location are also required to provide an information service on the prices of calls and messages to ported numbers when their tariff plans mean that a call to a number may be more expensive than before portability. However, as from 13 September, the provision of this service is made mandatory through a freephone number (free for calls made from the same network).
