Meeting of the ITU Policy Committee (Com-ITU) - May 2020

CEPT’s Com-ITU, responsible for European coordination with a view to participating in activities of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), held a videoconference meeting last 27 and 29 May chaired by Romania.

The speakers included the director of the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) and Telecommunication Standardisation Bureau (TSB), respectively Doreen Bogdan-Martin and Chaesub Lee.

The meeting was mainly devoted to preparing Europe’s participation in the next World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA-20) of the ITU, scheduled for November of this year in Hyderabad, India. The Committee proceeded to adopt the European proposals to present at WTSA-20, reflecting the strategic principles and interests that Europe and its industry want to see defended.

Preparatory work for the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-21) also began. To that end, a dedicated project team (PT WTDC-21) was created and its mandate approved; Inga Rimkeviciene of Lithuania was elected to oversee its work.

Another matter considered was preparation of the 2020 session of the ITU Council.
