52nd meeting of the RSPG - June 2020


The 52nd meeting of the RSPG was held last 9 June by videoconference, overseen by its new chair, Frank Krüger of Germany. Portugal was represented by the vice-chair of ANACOM, João Miguel Coelho, and by ANACOM’s director of engineering, Luisa Mendes.

The European Commission (EC) gave a presentation on the latest initiatives undertaken. The head of the RSPG reminded the members of upcoming meetings with the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) and the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC).

Presentations were given on the latest developments of the following RSPG subgroups:

A. ‘Permanent’ subgroups”

  • Preparation of the WRC (2023);
  • Peer review and member-state cooperation on authorisations and auctions;
  • Good offices and cross-border coordination under the terms of article 28 of the EECC.

B. ‘Temporary’ subgroups”

  • Opinion on the spectrum policy programme;
  • Spectrum sharing – pioneering initiatives and bands;
  • Additional spectrum needs and guidelines for rapid implementation of future broadband wireless networks;
  • Role of radio spectrum policy in helping combat climate change.

The RSPG also reported that following conclusion of the written procedure envisaged in article 15 of the regulations, the report on results of the 2019 World Radiocommunication Conference of the Radiocommunication Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R) was adopted.

The next RSPG meeting has been scheduled for this coming 7 October.
