1st meeting of CPG PTC - September 2020

The first meeting of project team C (PTC) of the Conference Preparatory Group (CPG) held a videoconference meeting last 1-2 September, focusing on European preparation for the 2023 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23).

This group is responsible for matters associated to aeronautic and maritime services and to protection of satellite radionavigation service versus amateur and satellite amateur service in the 1240-1300 MHz frequency band.

As this was the first meeting of the new preparation cycle for WRC-23, the first draft briefs were produced. These are technical and regulatory support documents for drawing up European common proposals (ECPs).

The subjects discussed included the following: regulatory protection of aeronautic and maritime service stations located in international air and maritime space versus other stations situated in national territory in the 4800-4900 MHz band; regulatory conditions for supporting suborbital vehicle radiocommunications; additional spectrum for aeronautic service (en route) in the 137 MHz band; technical and regulatory conditions in the use of spectrum allocated to fixed satellite service (FSS) for control and non-payload communications (CNPC) connections of unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs); spectrum identification for aeronautic mobile service (AMS) in the 20-21 GHz band; regulatory questions associated to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety Service (GMDSS) to ascertain how e-navigation can be developed; and the question of sharing the 1200-1300 MHz band between the E6 carrier of Galileo and amateur radio service.

The next meeting has been scheduled for April 2021.
