ANACOM approves amendment to the technical requirements for Citizens' Band (CB) personal radio stations

On 27 December 2023, ANACOM approved the amendments to the technical requirements for the operation of Citizens’ Band (CB) personal radio stations in the 26.96 - 27.41 MHz (27 MHz) frequency band and the corresponding update of the National Frequency Allocation Table (NFAT).

These amendments will allow data and picture transmission (slow scan television) on channels 6 (frequency 27.025 MHz), 7 (frequency 27.035 MHz), 24 (frequency 27.235 MHz) and 25 (frequency 27.245 MHz), although these channels can still be used for voice communications.

ANACOM’s decision follows several expressions of interest in the inclusion of digital modes in the Citizens’ Band, in particular from a number of citizens and amateur radio associations.
