ANACOM holds meeting with relevant authorities in the field of electronic commerce

In the wake of the Council of Minister?s approval on 31 October 2003 of the electronic commerce bill, ANACOM promoted and organised, in a moment prior to its entering into force, a working meeting with the other entities with powers in the sector. The aim of the meeting, held on 26 November 2003, was to debate several relevant issues associated with the enforcement of the law.

Following a brief presentation of the law by ANACOM, the meeting saw identified the main problems arising therefrom. The articulation of powers between the several supervision bodies stood out as being particularly sensitive. Also, the creation of an informal working group on electronic commerce was proposed, to ensure good enforcement of the law, the sharing of experience, the circulation of information, and, in general, the creation of a reflection forum on the subject of electronic commerce.

A large number of entities attended the meeting, evidence of high interest in the matter and, despite the sensitive nature of some of the agenda topics, most expressed their willingness to work closely with ANACOM in this area.

A second meeting was scheduled for the first half of February 2004 mainly aimed at discussing any proposals resulting from each entity?s reflection on the identified topics of debate, and particularly the conclusion of matters that need consensus.
