NATO PWG & NATO FMSC - Brussels

/ Updated on 31.07.2006

NATO headquarters in Brussels hosted on 18 November the 29th meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Policy Working Group (NATO PWG), chaired by Germany.

Highlights of this PWG meeting included co-ordination of the military position to defend on topics up for discussion on the agenda of the next World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC07).

During debate on item 1.5 of that conference?s agenda, it was pointed out to the alliance?s countries that although only a few countries were able to implement or build such systems, it was advisable for all States to collaborate in discussion of the subject, given the potential benefits of its use for both civilian and military applications.

The 19th meeting of NATO FMSC (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Frequency Management Sub-Committee) was held on 19 November 2004, chaired by Germany?s Joachim Strick, head of the Spectrum Management Branch (SMB).

Given the lack of military candidates to replace Colonel Volkers and following a proposal put forward by Germany, the SMB chair, traditionally awarded to a military representative from the Dutch army, was passed on to a civil representative posted in the International Military Staff. The accumulation of duties was maintained, i.e., it is inherent to the post that the SMB chair also chairs the FMSC.

The next meeting of NATO PWG and NATO FMSC will take place at the organisation?s headquarters on 7-9 November 2005.
