ECC TG3 - Mainz

/ Updated on 17.07.2006

The ninth meeting of working group ECC TG3-UWB (ultra wideband) was held on 13-15 June in Mainz, Germany. The gathering saw identification of the priority working items for TG3, so as to find a regulatory solution for the introduction of UWB communication in Europe. The work will be based on complementary technical studies, definition of the requirements for UWB, in campaigns for measures and in the impact analyses report. Regarding the complementary technical studies, new study scenarios were defined, along with propagation models and the methodology to use; these studies should be completed by the next TG3 meeting in July.

To define the UWB requirements documents with link budgets for UWB applications were submitted, along with technical parameters for such applications; a working document was created on this item. The impact analysis report is organised according to band and includes some preliminary conclusions with the spectral density limits of potential possible for UWB applications in each band, as well as a number of impact studies.

New products in the UWB sensor category were presented; the group noted that it would not be possible until October to have a regulatory solution for all the submitted applications.

Lastly, a new UWB emergency applications category was presented, though with emphasis on the fact that it must be clarified whether this working group should study this UWB category.

Regarding GPR/ WPR (ground probing radar/ wall probing radar) visualisation applications, the ECC was asked to consider whether TG3 could produce a recommendation on this type of UWB.
