Portugal joins the One Stop Shopping for Satellites

/ Updated on 01.03.2002
Portugal joined the One Stop Shopping for satellite services and networks (OSS SAT) on December 27 2001.

The OSS SAT is an instrument that provides industry access to satellite communications market, permitting the licensing of operators and service providers and also radioelectric licensing through a single electronic support, which means that industry can make applications for different types of licenses to various countries at the same time using the same channel. Another specific facility is the possibility of receiving and sending replies to requests using this same means.

One Stop Shopping provides in a combined application form the questions considered relevant and previously agreed by the 44 CEPT (European Conference for Post and Telecommunication administrations) countries.
The European Radiocommunications Committee (ERC) and the European Committee of Telecommunications Regulatory Authorities (ECTRA) initiated the development of this project in 1999. These two bodies were recently joined together in a single committee ¿ the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC).

At present the OSS SAT consists of 11 CEPT countries, 9 of which are Member States of the European Union.
