The group PT SE7 (responsible for land mobile service questions) met on 7-10 March in the German city of Mainz.
Regarding the use of land mobile service (GSM) terminals on board aircraft, the results of the studies were debated, as well as the draft version of the annex to the ECC Decision. As for the use of GSM terminals on board vessels, the group concluded that by using the interference levels recommended in ECC REC(05)08 a relationship of I/N=-8 dB would be obtained for the land mobile units.
More detailed studies may nevertheless be conducted, if requested. The Swedish administration reported that the Listen Before Talk technique may be an alternative to the mitigation techniques to implement in the GSM system on board vessels.
Lastly, work related to the development of cross-border co-ordination methodologies for mobile systems has resumed, with results expected by the next meeting.
