The Dutch city of Amstelveen hosted last 4-8 June the 47th meeting of the working group on Spectrum Engineering (WG SE), attended by about 40 participants, including observers from the European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics Technology Industry Association (EICTA), the European Radiocommunications Office (ERO), the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI), the Committee on Radio Astronomy Frequencies (CRAF), the operator Iridium Satellite LLC, the Low Power Radio Association (LPRA), the Mobile Satellite Users Association (MSUA) and the Bosch company.

Noteworthy was the meeting's approval of various documents, among them the report on compatibility between mobile systems in 450 MHz and terrestrial broadcasting service in channel 21 (470-478 MHz) and the recommendations on the channelling of fixed service for the 7125-8500 MHz, 10-10.68 GHz and 12.75-13.25 GHz frequency bands. The report on the analysis of coexistence between UMTS in bands adjacent to those of GSM 900 and GSM 1800 was approved at the last meeting of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC).

The following were also approved for public consultation:

  • revision of the report on the introduction of TETRA TEDS (TETRA Enhanced Data Service) - ECC REPORT 99;
  • revision of the report on the introduction of BWA applications in 3.4-3.8 GHz (ECC REPORT 100);
  • a report on the introduction of Multiple Gigabit Wireless Systems (MGWS) in 57-66 GHz;
  • a report on the introduction of ITS - Intelligent Transport Systems in 63 GHz;
  • a report on the introduction of GBSAR (ground-based polarimetric synthetic aperture radar) in 17.1-17.3 GHz;
  • a report on undesired emissions received by IRIDIUM by Radio Amateur Service;
  • a report on combined effects of the new systems planned for 5 GHz (ITS, BBDR - Broadband Disaster Recovery and BFWA - Broadband Fixed Wireless Access) in current systems/services;
  • a report on the compatibility of BBDR systems with other systems/services.

Also presented was a proposal (draft) of the Technical Annex to be contained in the ECC Decision on GSM introduction on board vessels, which was nevertheless not approved, due to technical questions raised by some administrations.
