Summary: The availability of broadband is a key indicator of the development of information and communication technologies (ICT). The European Commission presents a periodic report on the development of EU broadband markets with Member State data through the Communications Committee.

This document, which reports as of 01 July 2007, sets out a panorama of EU broadband Internet access, concluding that while some European countries are leading the world in broadband Internet access, there is a growing gap between the best and worst performing of Member States. The report cites a lack of competition and regulatory shortcomings as the main obstacles to broadband growth.
