ECC TG3 - Copenhagen

Copenhagen hosted last 10-12 December the 21st meeting of working group ECC TG3 - UWB (Ultra Wide Band), which is mandated to work out regulatory solutions for devices using UWB technology in bands below 10.6 GHz.

ECC TG3 is determining requirements for the DAA (detect and avoid) mitigation technique, which allows UWB devices to operate in the 3.1-3.4 GHz, 3.4-[4.8] GHz and 8.5-9 GHz bands and guarantees protection of the affected systems, specifically BWA (broadband wireless access) radio-finding systems. An internal report was prepared (Working Document for the Draft ECC Report on Technical Requirements for UWB DAA Devices in the Bands 3.1-4.8 and 8.5-9 GHz) and forwarded to the ECC. TG3 hopes to complete this report in March 2008 so it can be approved for public consultation. Note that validation of the DAA technique will imply co-ordination of activities with the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI).

Also under study is possible extension of the LDC (low duty cycle) technique as set out in Decision ECC/DEC/(06)12 to the 3.1-3.4 GHz band. An ?internal? report was conducted on this matter, which will continue to be studied.

Lastly, conclusions were reached on the maximum allowable emission values for UWB devices in fixed installations in interior spaces, which ensure the protection of fixed service. An internal report on generic UWB devices and specific UWB devices was also produced and sent to the European Commission in response to a request from the Radio Spectrum Committee (RSC).
