Portugal submits candidature to UPU Councils

/ Updated on 29.07.2008

Portugal has submitted its candidature to the Council of Administration and to the Postal Operations Council of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) during elections being held at the XXIV Congress of the UPU, which is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, until August 12.

In fact these candidatures are for re-election because, during the term that is now coming to a close, Portugal has participated actively in the work of the Union as a member of the two Councils and is now seeking renewal of its mandate to continue to contribute actively towards the development of the UPU.

The Council of Administration (CA) of the UPU oversees the activities of the Union over the period between Congresses with regulatory, administrative and legislative powers. The Council of Postal Operations (COP) is responsible for the operational, economic and commercial issues that are inherent to international postal services.
