This report presents the results of the quality evaluation study in respect of mobile voice services (GSM), video-telephony (UMTS) and network coverage (GSM and WCDMA) provided by the operators Optimus/Sonaecom, TMN and Vodafone Portugal. This study was conducted by ANACOM in the principle urban areas and along the main roads of Mainland Portugal, from 18 September to 19 October 2007. Among the key results, there was found to be significant difference between the GSM and UMTS networks, with the first presenting good levels of coverage and a good voice service performance, both in the urban conurbations and along the main roads. The UMTS network falls short, not presenting good WCDMA coverage and with certain zones continuing to suffer from a lack of coverage or from no coverage, principally along main roads.
