Quality Evaluation of GSM/UMTS Mobile Networks and Services on the Alfa Pendular Service of CP (Portuguese Railways)

This report presents the results of the quality evaluation study in respect of mobile voice services (GSM), video-telephony (UMTS) and network coverage (GSM and WCDMA) provided by the operators Optimus/ Sonaecom, TMN and Vodafone Portugal. This study was conducted by ANACOM on the Alfa Pendular service of CP - Braga-Porto-Lisbon-Faro railway -, from 18 February to 11 March 2008. Among the key results, there was found to be significant difference between the GSM and UMTS networks, with the first presenting better levels of coverage and voice service performance.
