Meeting of the RSPG subgroup on co-ordinating European spectrum interests - Maisons-Alfort

The French city of Maisons-Alfort hosted last 16 February the first meeting of the RSPG subgroup on co-ordinating European interests in spectrum matters, chaired by François Rancy (France), and attended by representatives of France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Malta, Liechtenstein, Hungary, Sweden, the Netherlands and Portugal, as well as by the European Commission. The aim of this subgroup is to prepare two opinions to present to the RSPG: one on the co-ordination of European interests in matters involving the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) and another that identifies the WRC-2011 topics of interest for the European Union (EU) and which require extensive support within the EU.

To begin with, the procedure put into practice at the last WRC-07 was discussed in detail. The positive points of the co-ordination undertaken within CEPT were highlighted, along with the aspects that can be improved in subsequent conferences with a view to achieving Europe's proposed goals during the process of preparing the WRCs. A contribution that identifies various agenda topics for the next WRC deemed to be of European interest was also closely examined.

Both discussion support documents, as well as the comments and suggestions put forward by the participants, will be used to prepare the two proposed opinions that will be prepared and debated at the group's next meeting, scheduled for this coming 6 April.
