PT2 TRIS meeting - Copenhagen

Project team PT2-TRIS (Technical Regulation & Interconnection Standards) met last 9-10 February at the offices of the European Radiocommunication Office (ERO) in Copenhagen. This PT produces studies and reports concerning technical aspects in different areas, such as convergence, interconnection and interoperability among different networks and services.

The meeting included discussion of the following subjects: regulatory requirements in NGN standardisation; location-finding and emergency service; new portability solutions for mobile service; and European Commission recommendations for next generation access.

Two presentations were given on the new Ethernet-based transmission systems; a regulatory viewpoint was also provided by the United Kingdom's regulator, Ofcom.

At the next meeting, scheduled for June 2009, PT2-TRIS plans to examine in workshop format the topic of the ''Switch to the IPv6 Protocol'', besides the subjects about which reports are being produced, such as the case of the various solutions for emergency caller location-finding for both mobile telephone service and nomad VoIP service.
