Project team (PT) 46 of the Frequency Management working group (WG WG) held its fourth meeting last 4-5 March in Nicosia, Cyprus, chaired by Jaap Steenge from the Netherlands. PT 46 mainly covers issues involving maritime mobile and maritime radionavigation services; the activity undertaken in the group's scope is reported to WG FM.
Among the noteworthy issues considered at the meeting are the following:
- Study on administrative procedures concerning personal locator beacons (PLBs), to obtain a perspective of the level of discrepancies among CEPT administrations, with a view to eventual harmonisation;
- Study on implementation of the complimentary ground component (CGC) for satellite mobile service systems in the L band and their impact on maritime communications in this band. A liaison statement was drawn up to be sent to WG FM PT 44, which considers matters involving satellite communications;
- Conclusion of the proposal to update ERC REC T/R 31-04, concerning the Short Range Certificate (SRC), and continuation of the work on updating ERC REC T/R 31-05 on the Long Range Certificate (LRC);
- Accompaniment of the result of work at the last CPG-PTC meeting, with a view to preparing the next World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-11), specifically agenda items 1.9 and 1.10;
- Accompaniment of issues in the scope of working group 5B of the ITU Radiocommunications Sector (ITU-R), concerning the future of the ITU Publications Service, specifically the plan to include Lists IV and VI in a new List IV and the proposed changes to the Maritime Mobile Manual;
- Discussion and proposal to revise the PT 46 working programme to present at the next WG FM meeting.
