ANACOM launches Roaming Light Campaign

/ Updated on 30.06.2009

ANACOM is launching an information campaign on 24 June on international roaming.  The campaign’s objective is to give consumers information before they travel abroad about issues they should take into account when using their mobile phone and accessing the Internet in roaming.

The campaign follows the adoption by the Council of Ministers of the European Union, on 8 June 2009, of the amendment of Regulation (EC) no 717/2007 on roaming on public mobile telephone networks within the Community. This amendment provides, among other things, for the establishment of new prices to be charged by operators for voice communications and text messages (SMS).  ANACOM deemed it essential to enact this national campaign, making users of roaming services aware of the new rules which, from 1 July 2009, will apply to operators belonging to the European Union and the European Economic Area.

The campaign will use various media, particularly a web site created especially for the campaign - Roaming Light. This website provides access to information and a useful set of tools that will make it easier to obtain information from all operators. The Roaming Light website is only available in Portuguese.
