Elections at 21st UPAEP Congress

Elections were held yesterday in the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal (UPAEP) to the posts of Secretary General and Counsellor, taking place as part of the Union's 21st Congress, being held in Santiago, Chile and closing today, 21 August.

The Secretary General, Serrana Bassini, was elected by acclamation, as the only candidate. Meanwhile, with 13 votes in favour and 12 votes against, Spain's Juan Ramón Martínez-Acha was re-elected to the post of Counsellor. The Argentinean candidate for the post withdrew before the Congress began.

The constitutive meeting of the Consultative and Executive Council (CCE) took place today, selecting the six members of the CCE's management committee for the period 2010-2013.

The agenda for the Congress also included issues such as approval of the budget for the next four years, the adoption of a Strategic Plan and the reform and development of the postal sector through the fundamental instrument which is technical cooperation.
