BWA frequency auction

/ Updated on 05.03.2010

Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) is the term used to describe new wireless broadband technologies, including fixed, nomadic and mobile applications.

In 2009, ANACOM will proceed with the allocation of 36 rights of use of frequencies for BWA (in the 3.4-3.6 GHz and 3.6-3.8 GHz bands, distributed across 9 geographic areas) through an auction, after a public consultation which will be held on the auction's regulation.

The aim of this  auction is to ensure the efficient use of frequencies and to maximize benefits for users, especially for those in disadvantaged regions, in addition to facilitating the development of competition and allowing the expansion of the market to new approaches, new projects and more players.
