'Information Society in Portugal - 2006'


The publication “Information Society in Portugal - 2006” was release. This is an initiative of the Grupo de Trabalho de Acompanhamento das Estatísticas para a Sociedade da Informação (GTAESI - Work Group for Monitoring Information Society Statistics) of the Conselho Superior de Estatísticas (CSE - High Council of Statistics), coordinated by UMIC - Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (Knowledge Society Agency) and by Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE - National Statistical Institute).

This publication, presented during the seminar held on 13 December 2006, at Instituto Superior Técnico on the subject “Monitoring Information Society in Portugal: State of the Art”, is the first compilation made in Portugal of the main and most recent statistical information produced by different national entities that monitor the information society. The publication is organized in six thematic chapters: “Telecommunications”; “Population and ICT”; “Electronic government”; “ICT education and training”; “ICT in hospitals”; and “Digital economy”.

ANACOM is part of GTAESI together with other entities, such as UMIC, INE, the Observatório da Sociedade da Informação e do Conhecimento (Information and Knowledge Society Observatory), the Observatório da Ciência e do Ensino Superior (Science and Higher Education Observatory), and the Direcção-Geral de Estudos, Estatística e Planeamento (Directorate-General for Studies, Statistics and Planning), among others, having participated in the making of this publication. This initiative also counts with ANACOM’s sponsorship.

ANACOM was represented at the publication’s release event, with a presentation on the subject “Statistical information on electronic communications”, made by Tiago Lopes, from the Studies and Strategy Department.
