ANACOM speeds up process of switching operator while keeping the same fixed or mobile number

/ Updated on 29.10.2012

ANACOM is launching an information campaign in Portugal today seeking to make people aware about the possibility of switching fixed or mobile providers while keeping the phone number they already have and also to make clear how quick it is to complete this switching process. The campaign is directed at the general public and uses  print and radio advertisements.

"Thinking of switching providers? Take your number with you" 'is the central idea of the campaign, which will be run over the next 15 days. Besides radio and print press, the campaign will also be run on ANACOM's consumers' and institutional websites.

With number portability, users can change their providers while keeping their phone number. Transfer of the fixed or mobile phone line must be concluded by providers within one working day, counted from the day on which the user submits the request to their new provider.

Under the new rules in force, users have a right to claim payment of compensation from the new provider of 2.50 euros, per number and per each full day of delay, if portability is not concluded according to this deadline.

The new rules on portability are designed to enhance conditions of competition in the fixed and mobile communications markets.
